I found this while looking for the BIG Gladiatrix by Russell Whitfield, and based on this review, bought the Kindle Book. It was cheap. $3. It reminds me of Podkayne of Mars, but different. It is like a teenage fiction book - but with sex and blunt situations. But I found it easy to digest. It’s not fetish material at all. BUT, it really feeds your mental picture of all this and stimulates my creativity.

This is a very straightforward book which, because it is written from a single viewpoint narrative of a stranger to Rome, serves as a brief, academically informed, introduction to both Roman intrigue and the ways and means of the Arena... and the place a woman would realistically have there.

I say straightforward because there are much lusher more detailed books about woman gladiators, well-wrought escapist exotica in which Xena or a visitor from Gor would be at home. But read this first to place your feet firmly on the blood drenched sand. The training and fights are described literally and lightly, they are not gladiatorial grindhouse. Set in the ancient Roman World, this small novella becomes a detective story in a third act that would be familiar to M. Didius Falco.
